Ilya Yablokov

Ilya Yablokov teaches journalism and digital media at the University of Sheffield. His research interests include journalism in Central and Eastern Europe, censorship and self-censorship, disinformation, and conspiracy theories as well as post-Soviet politics. Together with Elisabeth Schimpfossl, he is currently working on a book about the history of Russian media elites post-1991. His first book, Fortress Russia: Conspiracy Theories in the Post-Soviet World (Cambridge: Polity) dealt with how Russian political leadership uses conspiracy theories for social and political mobilisation. It’s Russian edition was long-listed as the best non-fiction book 2020 (The Prosvetitel/Enlightener award). His most recent book: Russia Today and conspiracy theories: People, Power and Politics on RT (with Precious Chatterje-Doody) is an insight into the world of Kremlin’s global propaganda campaigns carried out by RT, Russia’s flagship international broadcaster.
